August 1st Already????

I can't even begin to wrap my head around the fact that it is August 1st...For me, this is the final walk to returning to work.  Of course, there is something exciting about it, new kids, new families, new things, clean classroom, but there is also a sense of sadness as we return to our fall routine.  For our family, the return to school also means a return to football, and this year my husband is also taking EMT classes and our little boy will be starting preschool... we are going to have a busy fall.

Knowing that we are going to be having a busy August and fall, it is more important than ever for me to have my classroom organized, routines in place, and everything set up to begin.  We don't officially go back as staff for 15 more days, and we don't get kids for another 22 days, but that doesn't mean that there isn't plenty to still do at home.  I am hoping to get some books organized that will be going into my classroom, get my planner set up, and finish up creating literacy centers for my kids.

That is one area that I really wanted to fine tune this year in my classroom.  We do Daily 5 and use Fundations for our literacy program.  While I love both, I know that word work offers a great time for my kids to practice the skills that we are learning through Fundations, however, Fundations does not offer that word work practice for us, so it is all self created.  Which is great because then it means that it is created exactly how I want it.  Our first unit is letter sounds and CVC words.  I am excited to incorporate new CVC games, sorts, and practice pages into our weekly Daily 5.  Figuring out how that will all look is at the top of my list before school starts, but I am happy to say that creating the work for students to do, so slowly coming together.

I am excited to start the year. I look forward to new first graders, new families, a new classroom, applying new learnings, and having another amazing year. If you are still on summer vacation, soak up the last few days you have left.  If you have already gone back to school, enjoy the chaotic-bliss of the first few weeks of school.  Here's to an amazing 2016-2017 school year.

Happy August!
